Jesus' return - the hope of the world |
Jesus' return - the hope of the world

Who promised Jesus world return?Christ: "And if I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3).An angel: "Which also said. Ye man of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11).Paul: "Henceforth there is laid up for me crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8)
James: " Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it... Stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh" (James 5:7,8).Peter: "For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord" (2 peter 1:16)John: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him" (Revelation 1:7). What is the hope of mankind? The second coming of Christ. This event is mentioned directly or
indirectly in more than 1800 Bible passages, some 318 of these in the
New Testament alone. In fact, the return of Christ is the main theme of
seventeen Old Testament books. One out of every twenty-five verses
speaks of the return of Christ to this world; seven out of every ten
chapters make reference to the event.
Are there signs of His soon return? " This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God" (2 Timothy 3:1-4). Wars, Famines, Earthquakes "for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places" (Matthew 24:7). Universal Fear " And upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity;... man's hearts failing them for fear" (Luke 21:25,26). Abounding Wickedness "As it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man" (Luke 17:26). " The Wickedness of man was great in the earth, and ... every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually... The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence" ( Genesis 6:5-11).
How will Jesus come? "With the holy angels" (Matthew 25:31;Amrk 8:38; 2Thessalonians 1:7). "With power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30; Luke 21:27; Mark 13:26). "With a great sound of a trumpet" (Matthew 24:31; 1 Corinthians 15:52). " With a shout" (1 Thessalonians 4:16). "With the voice of the archangel" (1 Thessalonians 4:16). "With the trump of God" (1 Thessalonians 4:16). "With the brightness of his coming" (2 Thessalonians 2:8). "With a great noise" (2 peter 3:10). "In the glory of his Father" (Matthew 16:27; Mark 8:38; Luke 9:26). "In flaming fire" (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8). "As the lightning... shineth" (Matthew 24:27). "All the holy angels with him" (Matthew 25:31) "Every eye shall see him" (Revelation 1:7).
What about rewards? "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Revelation 22:12).
What "reward" will the wicked receive? "As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend... and shall cast them into a furnace of fire... then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father" (Matthew 13:40-43).
What reward will the righteous receive? "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2). "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8).
